“berlin modern”

Museum building under construction at Berlin's Kulturforum

The “berlin modern” construction project is located between the Neue Nationalgalerie, the Philharmonie and the Staatsbibliothek Potsdamer Straße. The new building under construction and the neighboring Neue Nationalgalerie will in future display the extensive 20th century art holdings of the Nationalgalerie collection, which could previously only be presented in excerpts due to a lack of space. In addition, works from the Ulla & Heiner Pietzsch Collection, the Marx Collection and the Marzona Collection as well as the Art Library and the Museum of Prints and Drawings will also be on display here.
The architects Herzog & de Meuron, together with Vogt Landscape Architects, delivered the design for the “House for All” as the winner of the realization competition. Bundesbau Baden-Württemberg is managing the ambitious large-scale project for the client Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz. 9,000 m² of exhibition space make all the difference: with its sustainable and participatory design, “berlin modern” significantly expands the Neue Nationalgalerie’s ability to present its collections on a broad scale.
