New-build on the Kunstcampus in Eurocity’s Heidestraße – one of Berlin’s major development districts
Europacity, also known as Heidestraße Quarter, is located just to the north of Berlin’s main railway station. Since 2016, the Europacity Kunstcampus has been home to the German headquarters of the engineering and consulting company Ernst Basler + Partner from Zollikon, Switzerland. This modern office building, overlooking the canal behind Hamburger Bahnhof, is a zero-energy building. Zurich-based Miller & Maranta architects designed the building. The ground floor of the building has been designed to host cultural events and the facade incorporates alternating concrete elements, which are repeated intermittently throughout the building’s interior. Inside, free-standing stairwells create structure. Construction commenced in 2014, with BAL acting as construction manager for the project from 2014 to 2016. BAL provided a wide range of services to ensure that the construction project ran smoothly.
