Completion of the 2nd construction phase on the Bötzow site in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg
At the beginning of a large construction project, there is a vision: the ability and courage to trust one’s imagination and the inner conviction that something tangible and lasting will one day emerge from a bold play of ideas. In the case of a restoration of a listed building, there is the added difficulty that the unexpected is hiding in plain sight.
Entrepreneur and investor Prof. Hans Georg Näder took on the Bötzow site in 2010 with a clear vision. Carefully and as close as possible to the original, solutions were sought here: In Cooperation with David Chipperfield Architects, an imaginative concept for the landmarked site was developed.
For us at BAL, the project began in 2013 with initial costing. After thousands of plans made, invoices checked alongside tens of thousands of daily construction reports, our BAL Managing Director Bernd Krechting is proud of the team. Today the existing buildings reveal their history in many places: The large areal was once home of the Bötzow Brewery. The former brewery is now a space where ideas come to life: Visionary companies find themselves in clinker-brick buildings steeped in history.
