There is a lot of debate in Berlin. About the budget, the traffic turnaround, rental policy and new buildings. However, a project like the Bötzow Areal is no cause for controversy. The Bötzow Areal is a remarkable example of how a once forgotten piece of urban history is being revived piece by piece by entrepreneur and visionary Prof. Hans Georg Näder. An impressive large-scale construction project, an imaginative oasis, not far from Alexanderplatz.
Following the careful restoration of the historic ensemble by 2021, a large beer garden with restaurant was opened this summer, just as it was in the days of the historic Julius Bötzow brewery. The master plan by David Chipperfield Architects is based on the former layout of the site in the arrangement of the new buildings. The new buildings characterize the streetscape of Prenzlauer Allee and give the area an unmistakable character that also preserves the former identity of the ensemble.
The arched, barrel-shaped façade components, designed in the style of the existing buildings, ensure that you do not feel exposed despite the floor-to-ceiling windows. An underground garage connected to the basement with technical rooms and over 90 parking spaces ensures a car-free image. This is pleasing to the eye. The green outdoor areas designed by landscape architect Peter Wirtz invite you to linger. Here you can relax outside as well as inside.
But this is no reason for our BAL team on site to rest on their laurels: For BAL, the project is now entering its final phase and, of course, we will ensure with bravura and proven commitment that the final work is implemented, and the qualities and deadlines are met. Managing Director Bernd Krechting says: “This is a special construction project. Our teams have demonstrated strong cohesion, reliability and creativity over the entire duration of the project. Thanks to defined processes and effective communication with all stakeholders, we are looking forward to a successful project completion.”
