A sustainable timber construction will complement the existing BMUV building in Berlin
The extension to the Ministry for the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) is being built not far from Potsdamer Platz. The green and sustainable design by C. F. Møller Architects envisages that the more than 1,200 Berlin ministry employees will work together under one roof in the future. The Danish architecture firm won first prize in an open competition in 2019 and was awarded the contract in the 2020 VGV procedure. The client is the Federal Agency for Real Estate (BImA) represented by the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR). The well-designed new building, which has a usable area of 31,500 square meters, will bring plenty of natural light into the functional offices. A large conference center, a library and an oasis-like roof garden round off the design.
