BAL participates in the initiative Girls'Day – Future Prospects for Girls 2023
Can you actually be fired as a boss? What don’t you like about your job? What is your everyday work life like? What is the best thing about your job?
For the first time in the history of BAL, we participated in the initiative Girls’Day – Future Prospects for Girls. And the lively interest of the girls was expressed in the numerous questions during the Q&A with BAL Managing Director Ulrike Küpper-Sommer. Although the Q&A session was set at the end of an entire day at the construction site, this did not diminish after 30 minutes.
Free of gender roles, the interested participants, aged 11 to 16, were able to gain exciting insights into the world of construction management at one of our major construction sites, Bötzow-Berlin. Out of 13,000 Girls’ Day events with over 126,000 places nationwide, we welcomed 8 girls to the construction site designed by David Chipperfield Architects and offered them the chance to get a taste of construction site life.
It was a matter of listening and actively implementing tasks themselves. Our committed BAL employees were responsible for presenting study programs and providing professional orientation.
According to figures from the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, the proportion of female students in Germany studying civil engineering/engineering is around 30%. Therefore the field is still considered a male professional branch. This results in a special responsibility, which we gladly accept. As BAL, we want to actively promote and help shape diversity in the construction industry. Successful participation in Girls’ Day was the first strike to send a signal to the public.
